Video: Chase Elliott, Matt DiBenedetto Trigger The Big One With Four Laps Left at Daytona

Oh my goodness. The 40 drivers in Saturday night’s NASCAR Cup Series Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway had done an incredible job avoiding the big one all night, despite wild pack racing.

As you watched it, you knew they wouldn’t be able to keep it up all race long. And sure enough, with four laps left, Chase Elliott attempted to keep Matt DiBenedetto behind him for the race lead by throwing a block.

Elliott and DiBenedetto went hard into the wall and all hell broke loose after that:

Along with Elliott and DiBenedetto, Brad Keselowski, Denny Hamlin, Cole Custer, Christopher Bell, Kyle Busch, Ryan Preece, Ross Chastain, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Kaz Grala were all among those involved in this big crash.

Somehow, Austin Dillon, who is hoping to work his way into the Playoffs in tonight’s cutoff race, snuck past this huge melee.

  1. A lot of Matty D fans not happy with the 9, but Chase was doing just what his spotter was telling him to do … just like Matt did at Talladega earlier this year when his spotter instructed him to move up.

  2. Chase was over blocking, very dangerous at those speeds, screwed up a good day for Matt who drove a smart race!
