The Nemecheks — father Joe and son John Hunter — became the first father and son to run a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race since 2005, when they competed in last weekend’s AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. This weekend, in Phoenix they will raise the ante a bit.
Both father and son will run all three NASCAR National Series races that will be contested over the weekend. To my knowledge, this is the first time this has ever happened.
John Hunter will again fill in for Matt Tifft in the Front Row Motorsports No. 36 machine in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. He will also run the No. 23 Chevrolet Camaro SS for GMS Racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race. And JHN will run his family-owned No. 8 Chevrolet Silverado in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series event.
Joe, on the other hand, will drive the N0. 27 Chevrolet for Premium Motorsports in the Cup Series, the No. 17 car in the Xfinity Series race and the No. 87 NEMCO entry in the Truck Series race.
This is an awesome feat for the father-son duo.
Last week, John Hunter finished 21st in his Cup Series debut, while Joe came home 29th.
Overall, the Nemecheks have a combined 27 wins in NASCAR’s three National Series.
Joe has four Cup Series wins and 16 Xfinity Series wins, while John Hunter has one Xfinity Series win and six wins in NASCAR Truck Series competition.
