The Big One: 19-Car Pileup Erupts on Lap 2 of Ambetter Health 400 at Atlanta

A big crash erupted in the dog leg on the Atlanta Motor Speedway frontstretch on Lap two of Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Ambetter Health 400. The carnage was triggered by Todd Gilliland slowing slightly near the front of the field.

Gilliland slowing up caused a chain reaction behind him, which sent Austin Dillon spinning to the inside of the track in Turn 1.

As Dillon went spinning, several other cars collided behind him, which sent several other drivers spinning through the field. It was a real mess.

In all, there were 19 cars involved in the crash.

The drivers involved included Austin Dillon, Chase Elliott, Noah Gragson, Josh Williams, Martin Truex Jr., Christopher Bell, Harrison Burton, Bubba Wallace, Daniel Hemric, Ryan Preece, John Hunter Nemechek, Erik Jones, Tyler Reddick, Alex Bowman, Justin Haley, Ty Gibbs, Carson Hocevar, BJ McLeod, and Daniel Suarez.

The accident spelled the end of the day for Alex Bowman, who drives the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.
