NASCAR Xfinity Series full-timer Sheldon Creed is set to take the next step on his journey to the pinnacle of NASCAR, with the announcement Wednesday that he’ll join Live Fast Motorsports for his NASCAR Cup Series debut at Kansas Speedway in September.

The 25-year-old driver, who currently pilots the No. 2 Chevrolet Camaro in the second-tier series for Richard Childress Racing, will bring Xfinity Series anchor partner, Whelen Engineering with him for the effort, where they’ll adorn the No. 78 Chevrolet Camaro.

“I’m excited to race a Cup [Series] race for the first time, as that’s been the dream for a long-time,” said Creed. “Whelen is a great company and I’m appreciative for their support in allowing us to do this with Live Fast Motorsports. We hope to have a good day at Kansas Speedway come September.”

Founded in 1952 by George W. Whelen, in his garage in Deep River, Connecticut, Whelen now encompasses two state-of-the-art facilities in Connecticut and New Hampshire with over 1,000,000 square feet of manufacturing space.

As an industry leader in the emergency warning space, Whelen proudly supports American workers in the manufacturing of its products and stands behind quality American innovation and craftsmanship in every product it turns out.

Whelen products are proudly designed, sourced, and manufactured in America, and tested on-site to meet the toughest industry certifications. With quality as the foundation, Whelen celebrates innovative engineering with every product made.

“Whelen is proud to sponsor Sheldon Creed’s first-ever race in the NASCAR Cup Series,” said Peter Tiezzi, III, General Manager of Motorsports for Whelen Engineering. “The special 9/11 Never Forget graphic on the No. 78 car is a small way to show our support for first responders and remember the brave men and women who lost their lives on that day and in the years since.”

Creed’s journey to get to the NASCAR Cup Series has been an unorthodox one, starting out in Stadium Super Trucks, before progressing into TransAm, then ARCA, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, and now, the NASCAR Xfinity Series, where he competes full-time.

Since joining Richard Childress Racing at the start of 2022, Creed has accumulated six top-five results in the second-tier series, including three separate third-place finishes at Darlington, Martinsville, and most recently Talladega.
