Following lengthy damage repairs on pit road with the new Next Gen Car, NASCAR Cup Series teams have asked NASCAR to give them more than the currently allotted six minute Damaged Vehicle Policy (DVP) time limit to repair their cars during the race.

On Wednesday, NASCAR sent out a note to the media that they have agreed with the race teams and will extend the DVP clock from six minutes to 10 minutes beginning this weekend at Darlington Raceway, and for the remainder of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season.

This past weekend, NASCAR Cup Series Playoff hopefuls Ryan Blaney and Martin Truex Jr. both ran into issues during the race, as they were involved in crashes. While both the No. 12 and No. 19 teams were able to repair their cars and return to the track, many others weren’t so fortunate.

As a result, Blaney was able to gain roughly 20 spots throughout the race, and despite being six laps down, he finished in the 15th position. Blaney salvaging a top-15 on the day was enough to secure his place into the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series Playoff field, and it eliminated Truex.
