Red Farmer, who is a part of the 2021 NASCAR Hall of Fame class, has been diagnosed with COVID-19 and is now recovering at home after being hospitalized with complications from the disease. Farmer posted the update on his personal Facebook Page as an explanation for why he has not been racing for the past month.

At 87-years old and suffering from kidney disease, Farmer is considered high risk, but he states that he is, “fighting a battle to try to win it…”

Farmer says his symptoms began about a month ago when he suffered a fever. Following the fever, Farmer developed a cough that he describes persisted, “24/7.”

After two straight days of non-stop coughing and no sleep, Farmer states that he went to the hospital, where he was diagnosed and hospitalized with an elevated temperature of almost 104-degrees and ultra-high blood pressure.

Farmer says after the scary stint in the hospital, he is now at home recovering .

Other notable members of the NASCAR community that have contracted COVID-19 include: NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Jarrett, and current competitors Jimmie Johnson, Austin Dillon, Brendan Gaughan and Spencer Davis.
