The Coronavirus pandemic has not only postponed a large portion of the 2020 NASCAR season, it has now also pushed off the debut of the NextGen race car until the 2022 season, according to a release from NASCAR on Thursday.

The new car was originally scheduled to debut for the 2021 season, but with upcoming crucial tests for the vehicle being canceled and manufacturers and teams being unable to work on the new changes to the car, the decision was made to push the NextGen off until 2022.

Currently, the NASCAR Cup Series is scheduled to return to action May 9th at Martinsville Speedway, but the state of Virginia has a stay at home order in place through June 10th, which means we could see further postponements for the 2020 season in the near future.
