Denny Hamlin Crashes Joe Gibbs Racing Teammate Ty Gibbs on Lap 110

Denny Hamlin crashed Ty Gibbs, his teammate, on Lap 110 of the Mobil 1 301 at New Hampshire

Ty Gibbs was running inside the top-10, and was looking to become the fourth different Joe Gibbs Racing driver to win over the last four NASCAR Cup Series races in Sunday’s Mobil 1 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, but his bid for a first career win came to an end on Lap 110 after contact from his teammate Denny Hamlin.

Hamlin had taken exception to how Gibbs had been running on track in a battle against him and Christopher Bell, two of the three Joe Gibbs Racing drivers inside the Playoffs, and let his team know he wasn’t happy on his team radio.

On Lap 110, in Turns 1 and 2, the aggression between Hamlin and Gibbs boiled over, and Hamlin made contact, which sent Gibbs spinning. The driver of the No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota would slam driver’s side-first into the outside wall.

Here is a look at the incident from the onboard cameras on both Hamlin’s No. 11 car and Gibbs’ No. 54 car:

Gibbs would attempt to limp his car back to pit road, but would need the help of a tow truck to get back to where his team could assess the damage. The team was able to get Gibbs’ No. 54 machine repaired enough for him to return to the track. Gibbs is nine laps down in 36th as they run.
