Chase Elliott Expected to Miss Six Weeks; Josh Berry, Jordan Taylor Taking On Fill-In Roles

As Chase Elliott continues to recover from a broken left tibia, Hendrick Motorsports has announced that Josh Berry and Jordan Taylor will serve as the organization’s interim drivers of the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro.

According to a statement from the organization on Tuesday, Elliott’s recovery is expected to see him sidelined for the next six weeks, which will include events at Phoenix, Atlanta, COTA, Richmond, Bristol Dirt, and Martinsville.

Berry, who served as a last-minute fill-in for the team at Las Vegas, will pilot the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro in five of the next six events, all on ovals, starting with Sunday’s event from Phoenix Raceway.

Meanwhile, Jordan Taylor, an accomplished road racer, will pilot the Hendrick Motorsports entry at Circuit of The Americas (COTA), in what will mark his NASCAR Cup Series debut.

Chase Elliott, who usually pilots the Hendrick Motorsports entry, has been indefinitely sidelined from NASCAR Cup Series competition, after fracturing his left tibia in a snowboarding accident on Friday.

On Friday, Elliott underwent a successful three-hour surgery to repair his fractured tibia and has since returned to Georgia, where he was scheduled to begin physical therapy on Monday.

“We’re focused on getting Chase back to 100%, so we’ll take however much time is necessary and make sure he has the best resources available,” said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. “Josh was impressive this weekend under difficult circumstances, and we look forward to having him drive the oval tracks until Chase is able to return. Jordan is a world-class road racer and has recently been working with our Garage 56 team preparing for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He’ll be able to step in and do a great job at COTA.”
