With 12 drivers visiting victory lane in the first 16 races of the NASCAR Cup Series season, the series’ playoff picture is already pretty bizarre and subject to major changes on any given weekend.

Bubba Wallace is looking to be the driver to disrupt the playoff picture this weekend, leading Friday’s practice session from Nashville Superspeedway, posting a time of 29.609 seconds (161.708mph).

Kyle Busch posted the second-quickest lap of the 50-minute practice session, nearly a tenth and a half behind Wallace’s 23XI Racing Toyota Camry TRD, rounding out a sweep of the top-two positions by Toyota.

The Chevrolets of Tyler Reddick, Kyle Larson, and William Byron completed the top-five lap times in the session, with Kurt Busch, Ross Chastain, Ryan Blaney, Denny Hamlin, and Martin Truex Jr. rounding out the top 10.

Other notable drivers in the session included Christopher Bell (11th), Daniel Suarez (14th), Alex Bowman (15th), Chase Briscoe (16th), Chase Elliott (18th), Joey Logano (21st), Austin Cindric (26th), and Kevin Harvick (29th).

A common theme in NASCAR Cup Series on-track sessions this season, Friday’s 50-minute practice from the 1.33-mile facility featured no on-track incidents, with 35 of the 36 cars posting a time in the session.

BJ McLeod was the only driver who failed to post a lap time.

Qualifying for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Ally 400 at Nashville Superspeedway will take place Saturday at 1:00 pm / ET on USA Network.
