When you’re in Las Vegas, a little luck can go a long way. For Joey Logano, though, his luck came a week earlier than expected.
Last week, the No. 22 Pennzoil Ford Mustang was out of the playoffs. That all changed when the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet failed to meet minimum weight requirements. This post-race inspection failure resulted in a disqualification for Alex Bowman, meaning Logano was once again in the playoffs.
While the Team Penske driver was gearing up for a ‘Round of 8’ appearance, other drivers had reason to worry.
For fans who believe in the power of numbers, the No. 22 has had significant success in even-numbered years. When Logano was eliminated after the ROVAL, many thought that his even-year magic was over. But, that statistic has come back to haunt his competition with the Middletown, Connecticut native advancing to the ‘Round of 8’, then winning the South Point 400. Now, the Team Penske driver is in a position to fight for his third title, keeping the streak of even-year championships alive.
Meanwhile, Christopher Bell fell just short of a Las Vegas win, marking the second consecutive year he’s come close. Still, the No. 20 Rheem Toyota had a better day than many of his championship rivals, especially after an early wreck derailed the points days of three other playoff drivers.
