Chase Elliott and the No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports team have put it into another gear since returning from the coronavirus shutdown, as they have been contenders to win in every race so far.
Elliott kept the momentum going after scoring his first win of 2020 on Wednesday at Charlotte Motor Speedway, by scoring the Stage 1 win in Sunday’s Food City Presents Supermarket Heroes 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
The Stage was dominated by Team Penske, as Brad Keselowski led 79 laps from the pole, but his teammate Ryan Blaney snuck by as Keselowski’s car faded. Blaney would led 21 laps before Elliott got by for the top spot with 22 laps remaining in the Stage.
Blaney would hang on to finish second in the Stage, while Keselowski would finish third.
Aric Almirola rebounded from a sluggish initial start of the race to finish fourth and Joey Logano was fifth.
Kevin Harvick, Matt DiBenedetto, Denny Hamlin, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., and Jimmie Johnson rounded out the top-10 from Stage 1.
