Brandonbilt Motorsports has officially issued a statement on Sunday, explaining their side of the primary sponsorship fiasco they had earlier in the week. BMS alleges that NASCAR approved their sponsor BEFORE their announcement on Thursday and that the only hang up in things was the paint scheme, which pertained to, “minor graphic design changes to ensure legibility on the track.”

The team says they received an email from NASCAR Racing Operations on December 26, 2021, in which the first four words of the email read, “The sponsors are approved.”

Here is the full statement from Brandonbilt Motorsports:

We are very aware and appreciative of the process required to approve sponsors and paint schemes and would not attempt to circumvent that process.

Brandonbilt Motorsports submitted our most recent sponsors and paint scheme to NASCAR, following the standard approval process that we have undertaken many times before without issue. We received written approval on the sponsors from a NASCAR Racing Operations official on December 26, 2021. The team subsequently moved forward with an announcement only after being provided with this approval.

The sponsor approval was unambiguous–the first four words of the email from NASCAR state, ‘The sponsors are approved…’ The only feedback offered was related to minor graphic design changes to ensure legibility on the track at 170mph.

We will continue to work with NASCAR and look forward to resolving this matter and clearing the air as soon as possible.

TobyChristie.com has reached out for a comment from NASCAR on the statement from BMS, but no response has been attained at this time.

Brandonbilt Motorsports announced a full-time sponsor for the 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series season in LGBcoin.io, a Let’s Go Brandon meme cryptocurrency coin, on Thursday.

However, in the hours after the announcement, NASCAR sent statements to various media outlets, TobyChristie.com included, that the sponsorship had not yet been approved by the sanctioning body.

NASCAR told TobyChristie.com that the sponsor (LGBcoin.io) is, “Not approved… Sponsor has to go through approval process, which has not occurred.”

But the statement on Sunday from BMS shines the light that they had been told the sponsorship had been approved prior to their announcement. Now, this opens things up to a war of what was actually said and approved between the sanctioning body and the race team.

Of course, with the announcement coming in the days after Christmas and just two days before New Years, there is a chance there was simply a breakdown in communication within the sanctioning body over what had been approved, if the sponsors had indeed been approved ahead of time.

Regardless, this whole thing gives off a really bad look.
