The first two races on the NASCAR schedule were unpredictable, making it impossible to assess how much progress these teams have made in the off-season. Now, the “real” NASCAR season has begun with the first true 1.5-mile track.
Without a superspeedway-style track to race on, it became clear that Chevrolet truly is the manufacturer to beat with Kyle Larson, driving the No. 5 for Hendrick Motorsports, sweeping the race’s first two stages and taking the checkered flag.
However, with their new body styles, the Toyotas brought the heat, particularly Tyler Reddick. Though the driver of the No. 45 finished this race on way better terms than Atlanta and Daytona – 29th and 30th, respectively – he still left frustrated saying, “Same shit. Different year”.
While the Toyotas brought the heat, the Fords continued to struggle before finding their footing towards the end of the race.
