Practice for Friday night’s General Tire 150 at Phoenix Raceway – a combination race between the ARCA Menards Series and ARCA Menards Series West — continued a great start to the season for Kyle Busch Motorsports and Sammy Smith.

Smith, who started his title defense in the ARCA Menards Series East with a victory at New Symrna, paced the hour-long practice-qualifying session for the series on Friday Afternoon, posting a lap of 26.912 seconds (133.769mph).

The No. 18 TMC Toyota Camry was the only entry to break into the 26-second bracket during the hour-long session, after making a qualifying run in the closing minutes to top the session.

Taylor Gray, whose David Gilliland Racing team continues to mourn the loss of hauler driver Steven Stotts after a traffic accident en-route to Phoenix, posted the second-fastest time in the session, just under two-tenths slower than Smith.

Jesse Love – the two-time and defending ARCA West champion — posted the third-fastest time in the session, with Nick Sanchez and Connor Mosack rounding out the top-five times.

The fastest driver of those competing for the ARCA West championship was Jake Drew in ninth-place, who lost the title to Love in a tiebreaker last season. Daniel Dye (sixth), Rajah Caruth (seventh), Parker Chase (eighth), and Toni Breidinger (10th) joined Drew in the top-10.

Other ARCA Menards Series championship-contenders, included: Greg Van Alst (21st), Amber Balcean (25th), and Brad Smith (35th).

Other ARCA Menards Series West championship-contenders, included: Joey Iest (12th), Todd Souza (13th), PJ Pedroncelli (15th), Austin Herzog (16th), Tanner Reif (17th), Cole Moore (19th), Takuma Koga (20th), Kyle Keller (24th), Bridget Burgess (27th), Chris Lowden (31st), Andrew Tuttle (33rd), and Bobby Hillis Jr. (36th).

Brian Kaltrieder (No. 07) and Nick Joaindes (No. 77) did not take time in the hour-long session in advance of Friday’s General Tire 150 at Phoenix Raceway.
