After winning the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series championship as the spotter for Ryan Blaney and the No. 12 Team Penske Ford Mustang, Josh Williams is moving on to different challenges in 2024, announcing Monday that he’s joined Trackhouse Racing.

The long-time spotter announced on December 4 that he wouldn’t be returning to Team Penske in the NASCAR Cup Series, ending a nine-year relationship with the championship-winning organization.

Now, Williams is continuing his relationship with a familiar face, which has brought him to Trackhouse Racing for 2024, where he’ll serve as spotter for Zane Smith and the No. 71 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro.

The 2022 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion will be listed as a driver for Spire Motorsports, but the No. 71 entry, a third team for the rapidly growing NASCAR Cup Series operation, will be heavily aligned with Trackhouse Racing.

“I really admire the culture that Justin Marks and Ty Norris have built in just a few short years at [Trackhouse],” said Williams in a social media post. “Watching the growth and atmosphere is something I really wanted to be a part of and continue to drive forward. It’s an easy fit already being with Zane Smith the last four years in the truck series to help with that transition into full-time cup racing which will be a challenging but rewarding task.”

Although Williams isn’t the first spotter to announce major changes over the off-season, his announcement in December began a chain reaction of multiple spotters making announcements, such as Eddie D’Hondt, Andy Houston, etc.

In addition to working with Zane Smith on the NASCAR Cup Series side of things, Josh Williams will also serve as the spotter for Brandon Jones in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, and Layne Riggs in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.
