Josh Williams Not Spotting for Ryan Blaney, Team Penske in 2024

Josh Williams, a long-time spotter for Team Penske in the NASCAR Cup Series, will not return as the spotter of the No. 12 Ford Mustang in 2024, the championship-winning spotter announced Monday.

This past season, Williams served as an integral part of the championship-winning effort for Ryan Blaney and Team Penske, as the organization rebounded from a tough season to have a strong final six races, and win the title with a runner-up result at Phoenix.

“Last week’s NASCAR banquet was my last call as spotter for the No. 12 team and Team Penske,” Williams said in a social media post. “After nine years it was time to personally and professionally make a change for myself and my family. I’m forever grateful to everyone I’ve gotten to work with at TP, especially those that have become lifelong friends.”

“I’m proud knowing the last six races were it and going out with a Talladega win, a Martinsville clock, and capping it off with a Cup Series Championship. We couldn’t have finished it off any better. I’m really excited for what the future has in store and looking forward to sharing those plans soon. I can’t wait to get to the Coliseum.”

Now, Ryan Blaney, the recently-crowned NASCAR Cup Series champion, will begin the quest alongside Team Penske to find a brand-new spotter for the 2024 season, as he looks to defend his championship and earn the third consecutive title for Team Penske at NASCAR’s top level.

The change in spotter for Blaney, announced Monday, is the second major change in the spotter market in the last three days, after Eddie D’Hondt announced on Saturday that he wouldn’t be returning to spot for Chase Elliott and Hendrick Motorsports in 2024.
