As Live Fast Motorsports, which sold its NASCAR Cup Series Team Charter to Spire Motorsports, transitions into being a part-time team, Matt Tifft will no longer be a part of the team’s ownership group.

In a media video teleconference on Tuesday, BJ McLeod explained that Tifft is pursuing other opportunities in his career. With Tifft out of the picture, the team will be owned by McLeod, his wife Jessica McLeod and Joe Falk.

“Live Fast will operate just as it has,” McLeod said. “Matt is going to move on and pursue other opportunities that he has on his side, so it will just be myself, Jessica and Joe [Falk] on the Live Fast side. Everything on the appearance side will remain the same.”

Following the video conference, Tifft offered a statement through a post on his X account, which laid the groundwork for his own personal return to getting behind the wheel.

“Time to move on, and I couldn’t be more thankful for everyone at @teamlivefast for what we’ve accomplished over the past three years,” Tifft said in the statement. “I will always be proud of what we set out to do, and how we worked with so many awesome people, including drivers, partners, and team members. The business of racing is tough, and while the competitive spirit will love on through my own racing, I can’t help but look back at this venture as a huge success and only the kick off for more to come. Here’s to what’s next!”

While the team moving to a part-time schedule in 2024 is not new news, as the team announced that when it confirmed the sale of its Charter to Spire back in September, McLeod did offer the expected schedule for the No. 78 team for the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season.

McLeod will be the driver of the No. 78 machine as Live Fast Motorsports will attempt to secure its place in the field for the 2024 Daytona 500 in February.

Additionally, the No. 78 team plans to enter the remaining superspeedway events at Daytona, Talladega Superspeedway, and Atlanta Motor Speedway with McLeod behind the wheel.

McLeod explained that if the team can partner with the right driver, it would be open to running select road course races in 2024 as well.
