Ryan Vargas will move to the newly rebranded CHK Racing (formerly known as Mike Harmon Racing) team to serve as the anchor driver as well as a consultant for the team’s restructuring, according to a release from the team on Thursday.

Vargas will pilot the team’s No. 74 entry in his part-time role for the NASCAR Xfinity Series team in 2023. For Vargas, who ran for the organization in spot duty in 2022, he knows how important the 2023 season is for CHK Racing.

“I’m really excited to be joining CHK Racing this season,” says Vargas in the team release. “This undeniably is going to be a big year for this organization, and I look forward to serving a role that goes beyond driving the car. I’m excited to assist with helping the team in our reorganization and hopefully leading them into a new, competitive era. With the newfound support from Gary Keller and Mike Clayton along with Mike’s old-school racer mindset, I fully anticipate a swing for the better both on and off the track.

“The work done internally already has been great to see, and I’m excited to be a part of helping this team make the steps necessary to build into competitive form.”

CHK Racing will have two sponsors returning for Vargas’ stint behind the wheel of their No. 74 car this season as Léargas Security and Williamsburg Contracting, LLC will be on the No. 74 entry for the season-opening event at Daytona International Speedway.

Vargas, 22, has two top-10 finishes through the first 67 starts of his NASCAR Xfinity Series career.

On Wednesday, Vargas announced that he will run a part-time schedule for On Point Motorsports in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 2023. In that announcement, Vargas announced a seven-race deal with the team.

On January 13th, Mike Harmon Racing officially announced their rebranding to CHK Racing for the 2023 season. The Harmon team gained co-owners Michael Clayton Sr. and Gary Keller, who join Harmon for the 2023 season.
