Chase Briscoe has been the underdog story of the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs this season, finding a way to advance himself into the ‘Round of 8’ despite a lackluster regular season following his win at Phoenix.

Furthermore, after somehow making an incredible rebound to finish inside the top five at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Briscoe’s chances at advancing to the ‘Championship Four’ has come down to his prospects of winning at Martinsville.

After being put a lap down by Kyle Larson, the race leader, Briscoe was pushing extremely hard to ensure that he could remain in position to get the free pass. Ultimately, that hard pushing backfired, with the No. 14 smacking the outside wall pretty good in Turn 2.

Stewart-Haas Racing was unable to fix the immense damage – both cosmetic and suspension – to the No. 14 within the bounds of the Damaged Vehicle Policy (DVP), forcing the Indiana-native to the garage, putting him out of the event.

Briscoe will now leave Homestead-Miami Speedway in a must-win situation, at a track where SHR has had some success in the past.
