NASCAR Cup Series qualifying for Sunday’s Quaker State 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway was a complete wash out on Saturday, which means the field will be lined up by the rulebook for the event.

Chase Elliott, who has finished first and second over the last two NASCAR Cup Series events, will start from the top spot in Sunday’s race at the 1.54-mile superspeedway configuration of the track in Hampton, Georgia.

The 26-year old driver is on a quest for his first-career NASCAR Cup Series win at his hometrack.

Elliott had the best “Metric” score (1.500), which is weighted formula based on a combination of performance factors including finishing position, points position and fastest laps from the previous week’s race.

Ross Chastain, who pilots the No. 1 car for Trackhouse Racing, will start from the outside of row 1, as he had a metric score of 3.650.

Kyle Larson, last week’s race winner Tyler Reddick and rookie contender Austin Cindric will start in positions three through five.

Ryan Blaney, Daniel Suarez, Alex Bowman, Martin Truex Jr. and Kevin Harvick will round out the top-10 starters in Sunday’s race.

In the first-ever NASCAR Cup Series race on the newly reconfigured Atlanta Motor Speedway, William Byron scored the win. Byron will start 13th on Sunday, and he’ll look to snag his third win of the season.
