Martin Truex Jr. is getting used to this whole starting in the rear of the field thing.
Last week, at Auto Club Speedway Truex failed pre-qualifying inspection and was not allowed to take a qualifying lap as a result.
This week, Truex has not been banned from qualifying. However, his No. 19 team has changed the engine on his car, which will result in him dropping to the rear before Sunday’s Fan Shield 500 at Phoenix.
John Hunter Nemechek will also drop to the rear of the field on Sunday.
His No. 38 team had to swap out the radiator on his car Saturday morning. As a result, Nemechek will have to start from the rear Sunday.
Both drivers will be allowed to qualify and will be officially credited with their official starting spots.
