Well, this was an unexpected bit of news for Monday morning… Roger Penske, through his subsidiary company Penske Entertainment, is the new owner of Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The track sent out a media advisory Monday morning announcing the acquisition.

According to the advisory, Penske also now owns Hulman & Company, the NTT IndyCar Series and Indianapolis Motor Speedway Productions.

A teleconference is scheduled for Monday at 11 am ET to discuss more about the news.

Penske, the 2-time championship-winning team owner of Team Penske in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, has also won the Indianapolis 500 18-times as a car owner in the IndyCar Series.

The joke for years has been that Penske owns the 2.5-mile track in Speedway, IN. Now, he literally does own it.
