Matt Kenseth to Return to SRX Racing in 2023 to Run at Eldora Speedway

We are a couple of months away from the official start of the 2023 SRX Racing Series season, but week after week the series continues to make impactful driver announcements. On Thursday, SRX announced that Matt Kenseth, the 2003 NASCAR Cup Series champion, will return to the series for one race in 2023.

Kenseth, 51, will run the August 10th event at Eldora Speedway.

While Kenseth is a longtime paved racer, he wanted to give the dirt at Eldora a try, as he ran at the track in Tony Stewart’s Prelude to the Dream event from 2005 to 2011.

“The first time I ever raced on dirt was Eldora, it was at Tony’s Prelude to the dream,” Kenseth stated in an SRX Racing press release. “My background was all asphalt racing and I remember how much fun I had that night, and said if I could go back and do anything different it would have been to race dirt earlier in my career.”

SRX Racing is elated to have the NASCAR Hall of Famer back to suit up for the race at Eldora Speedway.

“Welcome back to one of the very best short track racers and now a NASCAR Hall of Famer,” said SRX Chief Executive Officer, Don Hawk. “Having you back at Eldora was a goal, each race on dirt you got better and better, and perhaps the best is yet to come. Matt’s humble, hungry and smart and were lucky to have him back with SRX this summer.”

The Wisconsin native ran three races during the 2022 SRX Racing Series season and scored two podium finishes in his three starts.

In addition to the 2003 NASCAR Cup Series championship, Kenseth amassed 39 NASCAR Cup Series victories and 29 NASCAR Xfinity Series wins over the course of his NASCAR Hall of Fame career.

The SRX Racing Series moves to Thursday nights for the 2023 season, and will be televised live on ESPN each week. The season is set to kick off on Thursday, July 13th with the opening race of the season coming at Stafford Motor Speedway.

The Series will run for six consecutive weeks, concluding with the August 17th season finale at Lucas Oil Speedway.
