Kyle Larson flat-out dominated Saturday night’s Hangtown 100 at Placerville Speedway, but he was unable to collect a trophy and a check at the end of the evening.
With five laps to go, Larson entered Turns 1 and 2 in the high lane, while runner-up Daison Pursley fired his No. 86 car down into the inside line. As he attempted to pull off a slide job for the race lead, the move turned out to be quite the misjudgment.

Pursley would skid right rear tire first into the left front tire of Larson’s No. 1K machine. The contact would send Larson’s car tumbling into the air, over the cushion, and it would land onto its side in front of the monster truck tires, which serve as safety for the concrete wall behind them.
Fortunately, Larson, who captured his second career NASCAR Cup Series championship in Phoenix Raceway a couple of weeks ago, was able to walk away from the crash, and before exiting the scene of his mangled race car, Larson gave a round of applause to Pursley as he drove by the accident site.
Pursley would go on to take the victory in Saturday night’s race, while Larson would end the night in 15th in the 25-car field, after retiring five laps short of the finish.
It was a bit of a nerve-racking night for Hendrick Motorsports as Larson wasn’t their only NASCAR driver to go for a wild ride at Placerville Speedway in the Hangtown 100.
37 laps prior to Larson’s tumble from the lead, Larson’s protege, Corey Day, went flipping wildly from the runner-up position after making contact with a lapped car while battling with Pursley. Day, like Larson, was able to walk away from his crash.
