Before getting into the details, it’s important to note that Hunter Johnson, and all the other drivers involved, were able to walk away from this BRUTAL accident under their own power.

Leading up to this weekend’s coverage of the Snowball Derby, Thursday Night’s Pro Truck feature at Five Flags Speedway was two laps away from completion, when contact between Hunter Johnson and John Heil triggered a massive accident entering turn one.

In what appeared to be a case of tempers flaring, Heil got into the right-rear corner of Johnson’s No. 138 truck, sending him up the track and into the path of oncoming traffic. Johnson’s machine was then impacted by a black truck entering turn one, picking his vehicle up off of the ground, and sending it airborne and into the catch fence in turn one.

Racing America – who is providing coverage of this weekend’s racing events at Five Flags Speedway — posted the video clip of the broadcast, along with replays of the accident. When the accident occurs, in what was real-time, you can hear the astonishment from the broadcasters.

Black Flagged Podcast was at the track in Pensacola, Florida, where they captured a video – and posted it to YouTube — of the scary, scary accident from the grandstands and the crowd’s reaction to the accident.

The track crew at Five Flags Speedway will have to make immense repairs to the catch fencing and the walls, after that brutal impact. Roughing Fenders Podcast (@RoughingFenders on Twitter), posted a video from the stands of the damage to the fencing, as well as the track itself.

Following the accident, Johnson posted to his Facebook page that he’s headed to a local hospital to get checked out for some back pain, and will update everyone as soon as possible.

Additional updates on Johnson’s condition from his Facebook page will be added to the story as they become available.
