Carson Hocevar incredibly turned a lap fast enough for the pole Saturday at Sonoma, despite a broken tibia, but after turning the lap, Hocevar went for a spin and crashed his No. 42 truck.

What a wild roller coaster it’s been over the last week for Carson Hocevar.

The 19-year old NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver sustained a broken right tibia during a last-lap crash at WWT Raceway in Gateway. However, after surgery on Monday, Hocevar was approved to practice the No. 42 truck at Sonoma Raceway on Friday.

After a successful practice, Hocevar was approved to run the race.

In Saturday’s qualifying session, Hocevar turned the fastest lap of anyone in Round 1. In Round 2, Hocevar had turned a lap fast enough for the pole. However, after turning the fastest lap of the session, Hocevar went for a ride and skidded off into the tire barriers.

Here is video of Hocevar’s crash:

While Hocevar will officially be credited with the pole for Saturday’s NASCAR Truck Series DoorDash 250 at Sonoma, he’ll likely have to drop to the rear of the field before the race due to the crash.

Hocevar will start the race, and depending on how he feels, he’ll either race the full distance, or he’ll make way for Daniel Suarez to finish out the race in relief.
