After a pair of rough weekends at Charlotte and Portland, Riley Herbst and Stewart-Haas Racing are looking to turn their luck around at Nashville Superspeedway, and it appears they’re off to a good start.
The Las Vegas, Nevada-native scored the pole position for Saturday’s Tennessee Lottery 250 at Nashville Superspeedway, posting a blistering time of 30.562 seconds (156.665mph) to secure his second career pole in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
NASCAR Xfinity Series points leader, AJ Allmendinger, will start alongside Herbst on the front row for Saturday’s 188-lap contest, with a time clocking in just under one-tenth of a second slower than the No. 98 Ford Mustang.
Trevor Bayne, Austin Hill, and Justin Allgaier completed the top five in Saturday’s single-car qualifying session. Noah Gragson, Jeb Burton, Brandon Jones, Josh Berry, and Daniel Hemric also recorded top-10 starting spots.
Earning a 13th-place result in qualifying, Joe Graf Jr. recorded his best career start on a non-superspeedway in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, besting a previous high of 16th at Richmond in 2019.
Other notables include Landon Cassill (12th), Ty Gibbs (14th), Tyler Reddick (18th), Sheldon Creed (19th), Sam Mayer (21st), Ryan Sieg (24th), Anthony Alfredo (26th), and Ryan Preece (27th).
Dillon Bassett – driving the No. 77 for Bassett Racing — will start the event on 30th, marking the team and driver’s first start of the 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series season.
Brennan Poole (Mike Harmon Racing), Mason Massey (DGM Racing), and Matt Mills (BJ McLeod Motorsports) were the three cars that failed to make the event.
