Jesse Iwuji Motorsports made an announcement late Thursday evening that Kyle Weatherman will pilot the No. 34 JIM entry for this weekend’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Richmond Raceway.

JIM made the announcement in social media posts on Instagram and then later on Twitter.

Weatherman, 24, scored two top-20 finishes, including a career-best tying eighth-place effort at Atlanta Motor Speedway in a five-race stint behind the wheel of the No. 92 DGM Racing entry.

Iwuji, 34, failed to make the lineup for last weekend’s NASCAR Xfinity Series event at Circuit of the Americas. Overall, the No. 34 team has failed to make two of the last three races, as Jesse Little, who was called in last moment, missed the race at Phoenix Raceway.

While this ride presents an opportunity for Weatherman, who attempted to put a full-time effort in with DGM, before a lack of sponsorship foiled the plan, it also presents an opportunity for JIM, as they have a driver with top-10 finishing experience behind the wheel to diagnose where they are as a team.

The announcement from JIM stated that Iwuji will look to get back behind the wheel for the No. 34 team in a few weeks as he continues his Rookie of the Year campaign.

Jesse Iwuji Motorsports, which is working out of the JD Motorsports shop in Gaffney, South Carolina, was formed this offseason in a partnership between Iwuji, Hall of Fame NFL Running Back Emmitt Smith and other investors. The team has carried sponsorship from Equity Prime Mortgage as well as the eSports Racing Association, which will serve as the primary sponsor at Richmond this weekend.
