This is sure to bring back memories. In this weekend’s NASCAR Xfinity Series Sparks 300 at Talladega Superspeedway, Bayley Currey will pilot a special No. 4 Alka-Seltzer Chevrolet Camaro, which will feature the same paint scheme that NASCAR Hall of Famer Terry Labonte ran in the NASCAR Busch Grand National Series (now known as the NASCAR Xfinity Series) back in 1997.

For Currey, who like Labonte hails from Texas, it’s a real honor to run a paint scheme that Labonte previously ran in his legendary career.

“Terry (Labonte) is pretty cool, he’s another Texan like me,” Currey said in a team press release. “We both raced around Texas at the same tracks when we were coming up in our racing careers. I’ve always looked up to Terry, and I can’t wait to be driving his colors around Talladega.”

Labonte, a 2016 inductee in the NASCAR Hall of Fame, is an absolute legend in the sport. Over the course of a 37-year career in the NASCAR National Series ranks, Labonte scored two NASCAR Cup Series championships (1984 and 1996) and he amassed 22 victories in NASCAR Cup Series competition along the way.

Known as “The Iceman” for his calm demeanor on the race track, Labonte also scored 11 NASCAR Xfinity Series wins in 124-career starts and added a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series win in just three starts in that series.

While he’ll be piloting the colors of a legend this weekend, Currey has begun to forge his own path to success in the NASCAR Xfinity Series this season. Through 27 races, Currey has a top-10 finish (10th at New Hampshire Motor Speedway) and he has racked up an impressive 11 top-20 finishes.

Currey, an old-school racer, who actually helps the JD Motorsports team put the cars together at the shop during the week, is on a two-race top-12 finishing streak. The 25-year-old finished 11th at Bristol Motor Speedway two weeks ago in the Alka-Seltzer sponsored No. 4 machine, and he finished 12th at Texas Motor Speedway this past weekend.

Saturday’s race will mark Currey’s fourth start of the 2022 season with Alka-Seltzer as his primary sponsor, how special would it be if the hard-working journeyman racer could land the No. 4 car in victory lane?

The NASCAR Xfinity Series Sparks 300 at Talladega Superspeedway is set for Saturday, October 1st. Television coverage of the event will be provided by USA Network and the broadcast will kick off at 4:00 PM ET.
