If Kyle Larson doesn’t end up victorious in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series Door Dash 250 at Sonoma Raceway, it’ll be considered a massive upset. Larson, driving the No. 17 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro, rocketed to the pole for the race on Saturday afternoon with a lap time of 78.387 sec. (91.393 mph).

Larson’s fast lap was more than seven-tenths-of-a-second faster than Justin Allgaier, who secured the second starting spot for Saturday’s race.

This massive margin of victory for the pole position follows Larson pacing NASCAR Xfinity Series practice at Sonoma on Friday by more than a second. He’s in his own zip code. But, there is a reason they run the race.

While Larson and Allgaier will make up the front row for Saturday’s race, Sheldon Creed and Aric Almirola will lineup behind them in Row 2.

AJ Allmendinger, Sam Mayer, Ty Gibbs, Daniel Hemric, John Hunter Nemechek, and Sammy Smith will roll from positions five through 10 at the start of the Door Dash 250.

With 41 cars attempting to make the field, three teams were forced to pack their cars back into the haulers to make the trip back home after the session. Brennan Poole, who drives the No. 6 JD Motorsports entry, Leland Honeyman, who was attempting the race in the No. 35 Emerling-Gase Motorsports car, and Mason Filippi, who was piloting the No. 66 MBM Motorsports machine, all failed to make the race.
