At just 22 years old, Ty Gibbs has already accomplished quite a bit in his young racing career. In 2025, the grandson of the legendary Coach Joe Gibbs will add a new title to his resume — owner. On Wednesday, Joe Gibbs Racing confirmed to Racing America on SI that Ty Gibbs will be the officially listed team owner of the organization’s No. 54 NASCAR Xfinity Series entry next season.

Gibbs first hinted that he would take ownership of the No. 54 NASCAR Xfinity Series team in an Instagram Stories post, which he shared from his personal Instagram account following Wednesday’s announcement of Taylor Gray piloting the No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing NASCAR Xfinity Series Toyota GR Supra full-time in 2025.

In the Instagram Stories post, Gibbs captioned a video montage of Gray with a few short sentences, the first one was quite eye-opening.

“First year as 54 owner,” the caption started off with a finger-up emoji.

The caption continued, “First year as 54 driver,” with a checkmark emoji, and, “Excited for @taylorgray17_”

Since moving up the racing ladder from the ARCA Menards Series after winning a championship for Joe Gibbs Racing as a driver in 2021, Gibbs has remained a visible presence in the pit area for the Joe Gibbs Racing ARCA Menards Series program over the last few years.

Now, he’ll take on an increased role within the team outside of his NASCAR Cup Series driving duties.
