Video: Ryan Blaney Hard into Wall After Contact From Dillon With 44 to Go at Kansas

Ryan Blaney Crash Kansas
Ryan Blaney has crashed at Kansas with 44 laps to go after contact from Austin Dillon. Screengrab from NBCSN race broadcast.

Disaster has struck for the driver who sat second in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs Standings heading into Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway, as Ryan Blaney has gone hard into the turn two wall with 44 laps to go.

Blaney was running ninth, when Austin Dillon lost control of his car on the inside of Blaney. Dillon couldn’t regain control until he tapped the left rear quarterpanel of Blaney’s No. 12 machine. The contact sent Blaney hard into the wall.

The damage sustained in the crash ended the day for Blaney.

“Got run into from two lanes below me,” Blaney said of the incident that ended his day. “So, I have no idea. Obviously, it hurts. Finishing 37th is not fun. Didn’t have a great day, but we did a good job of fighting back. Getting back to the top-10. Just getting wiped out when you give plenty of room, sucks. That’s very unfortunate.”

What looked to be a certain top-10 finish for Blaney will now result in about a 37th-place finish.
