UPDATE – Tuesday, July 9 at 10:57 AM:
Young’s Motorsports confirmed Tuesday that Thad Moffitt, grandson of seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Richard Petty, would be joining the organization for the remainder of the 2024 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series campaign.
The team has acquired owner points from Faction46, the organization that fielded Moffitt in the opening 13 events of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series campaign.
“This is the reset that I need,” said Moffitt. “I have raced for Tyler and Young’s Motorsports in the past and we have a great relationship. He has made this transition easy for us, and he has the team and equipment for us to go to Pocono and immediately have a great race. This was a quick move for everyone, but I feel good about it.”
Moffitt will also continue his strong marketing program and partnerships with Clean Harbors, Safety-Kleen, Customers Bank, Pristine Auction, Joe Jurgielewicz and Son – America’s Tastiest Duck, Induction Innovations, LEER, and Window World, amongst others.
“Our partners are the true people powering my racing,” continued Moffitt. “We have a responsibility to them to have the best program possible and we needed a change to make that happen. We are going to continue to work with all our partners for the remainder of this year and continue to grow with them next year.”
Moffitt and Young’s Motorsports will debut this Friday night at the Pocono Raceway. Moffitt will have Joe Jurgielewicz and Son – America’s Tastiest Duck as his primary partner on the truck and is looking forward to the new challenge.
“This will feel a little bit like Daytona this weekend,” mentioned Moffitt. “Everything will be a little bit new for us as a team with new people. But it’s exciting, too. We have a great program and now it’s time to really show what we can do. The new team gives me a lot of hope of some great finishes for the rest of the season.”
After 12 races, the Trinity, North Carolina-native currently sits 30th in NASCAR Truck Series point standings, with a best finish of 18th at Darlington Raceway.
Thad Moffitt, who was benched in favor of Dawson Cram by Faction46 for the most recent NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Nashville Superspeedway, will return to the series this weekend at Pocono Raceway, but not for the Faction46 team that he had run for in the opening 12 races of the season.
Instead, Moffitt will pilot a Chevrolet Silverado fielded by Young’s Motorsports this weekend at Pocono Raceway, according to the entry list released by NASCAR on Monday afternoon. Interestingly enough, Faction46 is not on the entry list, and the Young’s team has acquired the No. 46 for the Moffitt entry. The number had been used by Faction46 in every race this season prior to this weekend.
While there has been no official announcement from the Faction46 team at the time of publishing, that team not being on the entry list, and its former driver running their truck number for a different organization this weekend would lead you to believe this isn’t good news for that program.
According to Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports, the Young’s Motorsports team is unsure how many races they will field the truck for Moffitt, but there is a chance the organization could field the entry for the remainder of the season with Moffitt as the driver.
Young’s Motorsports now has the No. 46 truck number and will enter Thad Moffitt at Pocono. Team would only run this truck for Moffitt and tbd if they will do all the remaining races or not.

In addition to Moffitt’s No. 46 entry, Young’s Motorsports will continue to field the No. 02 Chevrolet Silverado for Mason Massey this weekend at Pocono Raceway.
Moffitt’s 12-race tenure at Faction46 was rough to say the least. The 23-year-old grandson of the legendary Richard Petty had a best finish of 18th, which tied his career-best finish in the Truck Series, at Darlington Raceway. But the driver also had three DNFs, and a total of five finishes outside of the top-30.
The average finish for the North Carolina native through 12 starts this season is 28.2. Moffitt will look to improve upon those numbers Friday afternoon at Pocono Raceway in the CRC Brakleen 175.
