Video: “It’s Pretty Much Bullshit,” Rich Lushes Upset with NASCAR Following Green Flag Penalty to Ben Rhodes

Friday Night’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Corn Belt 150 at Knoxville Raceway was nothing, if not eventful. While the racing in the later portion of the event was less than ideal,  there was one moment on the broadcast that shone brighter than any other, an interview with Rich Lushes, the crew chief on the No. 99 ThorSport Racing Toyota Tundra, captured by Jamie Little.

Lushes was visibly frustrated about the situation that had just unfolded, as his driver Ben Rhodes, had been back-flagged by NASCAR under green because a piece of the No. 99’s bumper was hanging out the front of the truck. However, that’s not what had Lushes ticked off, as since this damage was sustained an entire caution period had come and gone, with no official determination of any penalties to the No. 99.

“With about two to go they were talking about it, but they didn’t tell us we had to pit,” Lushes told Jamie Little. “Then all of the sudden, when we were coming back to green, they had told us we were getting the black flag and we had to pit.”

At the time of the penalty, Rhodes was running at the back-half of the top-10 and was looking to potentially secure a top-five results. The timing of the next caution flag was lucky for Rhodes, who ultimately would find himself able to rebound.

“I guess I’ll go to the NASCAR hauler after this race and figure out why they were going green and telling us we had to pit,” Lushes continued, before speaking the most memorable line of the interview, “because that’s pretty much bullshit.”
