Video: Honeycutt Gets Into Eckes in Practice, Eckes Catches Wall

It’ll be a rough start to the Charlotte Motor Speedway race day for Christian Eckes and the No. 19 McAnally-Hilgemann Racing team as Eckes is in the garage area and his team is working on repairs to his Chevrolet Silverado.

As a result, Eckes will not be permitted to make a qualifying lap on Friday and he will start at the rear of the field in Friday night’s North Carolina Education Lottery 200.

Eckes suffered damage to the left and right sides of his truck after contact with Kaden Honeycutt in Turns 1 and 2. As Eckes and Honeycutt exited the turn sideways, Eckes made contact with the outside wall with his right rear quarterpanel.

Eckes had turned the third-fastest lap time in the session prior to the incident, which put his team behind the eight-ball.

After the session was over, Honeycutt thought the incident was half his fault, and half Eckes’ fault, but after seeing the replay, he took the majority of the blame for the incident.

“I shoved my nose to the inside down there in Turn 1, and I definitely got loose underneath him,” Honeycutt said. “Hot, slick racetrack. Just did not expect it. My inexperience just absolutely kicked in right there. I feel bad about that, just so stupid on my part.”
