Norm Benning Racing’s No. 6 Chevrolet Silverado has been forced to withdraw from Friday Night’s Toyota 200 Presented by CK Power at World Wide Technology Raceway, after the sanctioning body determined that the nose on the team’s entry did not conform to the NASCAR Rule Book

The organization posted a statement to social media on Friday, over three hours before the race was scheduled to begin, saying the organization was “blindisded” by NASCAR’s ruling.

“During our unloading process today, a NASCAR official came over to our truck and stated that our truck’s nose was out of date and therefore illegal. During the past race weekend at Watkins Glen, the team had asked officials about the rules pertaining to noses and was given an answer that implied only one of our three trucks (not the one at the track today) was illegal.”

“This was a huge miscommunication between us and NASCAR,” the statement continues. “We would like to apologize to our fans and sponsors, who have remained loyal to us throughout many challenges we have suffered this season. If we would have known that this piece would have been deemed illegal, we would not have invested our time and limited budget into traveling to World Wide Technology Raceway.”

According to Bob Pockrass, Norm Benning came to the track with a 2018 body on their entry, a body style which NASCAR had determined will only be eligible for road courses and dirt tracks after July 30th of this year.

Norm Benning Racing has attempted to qualify for 12 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series events this season, using the added benefit of no practice and qualifying sessions, and their top-40 points position to the team’s advantage, a position that will be in limbo following Friday Night’s event at World Wide Technology Raceway.

“We run on a limited budget, and it would be wasteful for the team to throw out a good nose if it is still legal. We do not have on-staff fabricators, and all of our fabricating work is done in Charlotte; we cannot adapt our trucks as easily and quickly as other teams.”

With both the No. 6 and No. 11 teams electing to not compete in Friday Night’s event, only 38 trucks will take the green flag for the Toyota 200 Presented by CK Power, a shame when considering the fact that Clay Greenfield Motorsports and On Point Motorsports both had an entry excluded by points, with the expectation that Benning and Davis would start the race.
