One of the best throwback paint schemes at the 2021 Darlington Raceway weekend is without a doubt the No. 02 Young’s Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado, which will be driven by rookie contender Kris Wright in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series LiftKits4Less.com 200.
Wright’s bold black, silver and general motors orange-ish scheme will throw it back to NASCAR Hall of Famer Ron Hornaday Jr., who drove the scheme for Kevin Harvick Incorporated on the No. 6 truck during the 2005 Truck Series season. Hornaday scored a win that season at Atlanta driving this scheme and finished fourth in the overall NCWTS championship standings that year.
Wright, who hails from Pennsylvania, is pumped to celebrate Hornaday, a four-time Truck Series champion and undoubtedly one of the greatest drivers in Truck Series history.
“We wanted to do a bona fide truck throwback, not a cup or Xfinity throwback that ended up on a truck. It just doesn’t feel right to intermingle schemes from one series into another series,” Wright said. “This paint scheme hasn’t been done before, and it’s one of the most historic designs from the 2000s. Ron was an iconic truck series champion, and I am happy to celebrate him with a throwback in his honor.”
The scheme was designed by Justin Calvin of JCal Designs, and he left no stone unturned in the process. He even incorporated Wright’s name in a fictional sponsor (Goodwright) on the side of the machine to match the truck to the original GM Goodwrench scheme.
Wright, 26, has competed in four NCWTS events so far this season with a best finish of 12th coming in the season-opening event at Daytona International Speedway. Wright will look to best that finish this weekend with a truly breathtaking design on his No. 02 truck.
