Timmy Hill and the Hill Motorsports team will run a two-truck NASCAR Camping World Truck Series organization during the 2022 season and will utilize the No. 56 and the No. 5.
The numbers are a cool nod to Jerry Hill, the father of Timmy and Tyler Hill.
“The No. 5 was the number we originally wanted to start with,” Hill explained to TobyChristie.com. “The No. 56 was actually our second option. We actually got denied the first go around. It was the number that my father ended his career on in the Truck Series in 2003. The 56 was still very important to us, so we went with the 56 instead.
“Circled back around when we started the second truck up. Obviously, I wanted to hit on the No. 5 to see if it was available. It took a little bit of work, but finally NASCAR gave us that number, which is exciting. We love keeping a little family tradition in our race team.”
Jerry Hill utilized the No. 56 in his eight NASCAR Cup Series starts from 1991 to 1993 and he drove the No. 5 in 22 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races with Rick Ware Racing in 2003.
Hill Motorsports’ No. 56 truck will compete for the full 2022 campaign, while the No. 5 truck will run a part-time schedule that will be fully dependent on sponsorship.
But when the No. 5 truck does hit the track, it is expected that Tyler Hill will be behind the wheel.
“More than likely it’ll be Tyler,” Hill said. “We have the opportunity for other drivers to run, with it being a part-time schedule the opportunities are kind of wide open for it.”
Hill says that Hill Motorsports will take just the No. 56 truck to Daytona International Speedway for the first event of the season.
Back in December, Hill Motorsports announced a manufacturer change to Toyota for the 2022 season and that Hill would be piloting the No. 56 Toyota Tundra TRD for the full season.
Heading into the 2022 season, the team, which made their debut in 2019, has made 54 starts in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. The team’s best finish is a second-place effort by Tyler Hill in the fall event at Talladega Superspeedway last season.
Hill says the truck that finished runner-up last fall will return in the season-opening race at Daytona as the team chases their first Truck Series win.
“Really, the truck that we took, all we did was update the nose and tail,” Hill stated. “It was basically unscathed. The truck should be just as good as it was at Talladega.”
To date, Hill Motorsports has recorded two top-five finishes and seven top-10s in NCWTS competition.
