NASCAR is a sport full of huge hearts. The latest example of that is West Virginia’s Codie Rohrbaugh.

The driver of the No. 9 CR7 Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado in the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series will run a special paint scheme this weekend in the Pocono Organics 150 at Pocono Raceway, which honors a child from West Virginia who is battling back from a near-fatal boating accident.

Instead of typical corporate sponsorship, plastered on Rohrbaugh’s truck will be the words ‘Pray for Joshua’. There is also a photo of Joshua Shirk wearing a cowboy hat on the hood and rear quarterpanels of the truck as well.

According to the Facebook Group titled He’s Fighting, We’re Believing, which was created at the request of Shirk’s family in an effort to keep people up to date on his recovery, the eight-year-old was kayaking with his family on May 17th, when the kayak capsized and Shirk was trapped in debris under water.

When Shirk was pulled from the water, he had no pulse. However, he was able to be revived at the hospital, but faces an uphill battle to return to health.

Rohrbaugh, who sits 17th in the 2020 championship standings currently, has a career-best finish of third in 16 NGROTS starts, which came in the season-opening event this year at Daytona International Speedway. The 26-year old has never contested an event at Pocono Raceway, but if he could find a way to tame the tricky triangle imagine how cool it would be to see Joshua Shirk’s photo in victory lane.
