It’s been a tumultuous off season for Richard Petty Motorsports. The organization, which fields the iconic No. 43 car in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, lost crew chief Drew Blickensderfer who moved to Front Row Motorsports. The team also lost one of their primary sponsors from 2018, Click N Close Mortgage.

However, less than two weeks before the start of the 2019 season, things are falling into place for the team.

Last week, the team announced that they elevated lead engineer Derek Stametz to be the team’s crew chief.

Tuesday, AfterShokz Headphones — a company that has a personal endorsement deal with driver Bubba Wallace — has announced that they’ve agreed to terms to be the primary sponsor for the No. 43 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for the season-opening race.

“Bubba Wallace made a historical impact on the sport last year and specifically in his first Daytona 500,” said Bill Kimball, Chief Operating Officer, AfterShokz. “This is an amazing opportunity for us to join Richard Petty Motorsports and continue our journey with Bubba. We are looking forward to our first Daytona 500 and we hope it’s just as memorable as last year, with a finish one spot better.”

In a chaotic Daytona 500 last season, Wallace provided an emotional second-place finish. That finish was the big highlight of his rookie campaign. Wallace, 25, will look to use his experience in that race to help him to his first Cup Series victory.

“After last year, we know we can win the Daytona 500,” said Wallace Jr. “Our team at Richard Petty Motorsports knows how to put together a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 that is capable of giving me the handling and speed I need. We raced up front last year at Daytona, both in the 500 and in July, so I expect us to do it that again. That’s going to make a great day for AfterShokz, too. I’m thrilled they are joining us in the journey this year. They have become friends of mine and we’re going to Daytona together to win it.”

RPM’s AfterShokz No. 43 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1will take the track for the season-opening Daytona 500 on Sunday, Feburary 17 at 2:30 PM ET on FOX.
