Race Preview

Austin Cindric, coming off his second win of the 2021 NASCAR Xfinity Series season, heads into a track where he dominated, yet failed to win a season ago. In last year’s race, Cindric led 68 laps and won Stages 1 and 2, before ultimately losing out after a late-race speeding penalty on pit road and a pit strategy that left him with one less set of fresh tires at the end of the event.

You would think Cindric and his Team Penske team learned how important tires were at the end of that race, and will not make that mistake again this weekend. If they are flawless, as Cindric has been for most of his last 26 races in the series, they stand a great shot at another win. Cindric will start from the pole.

Cindric will also be competing in the NASCAR Cup Series race this weekend.

Jeb Burton, who starts from the outside pole, has been electric since moving to Kaulig Racing’s No. 10 car. The son of Ward has not finished outside the top-10 in any race this season, and while he had a wild late race restart last week where he made contact with Daniel Hemric and several others, Burton is usually a smooth and calculating driver behind the wheel.

Burton’s usually calm demeanor should serve him well at Atlanta, where it’s all about not burning off your tires. Expect Burton to possibly be in play for his first-career win on Saturday.

And Obviously, the favorite for the win has to be last year’s winner of this race AJ Allmendinger. The 39-year old skillfully managed his tires last year as he led 37 laps en route to a victory over Noah Gragson by nearly two seconds.

Allmendinger is the veteran type of driver you expect to excel at Atlanta.

Looking for some underdogs that could surprise? Riley Herbst finally shook off his bad luck by having a clean race last week in Phoenix, he starts seventh in the No. 98 car that led 40 laps in this race a season ago.

Bayley Currey, coming off his first-career top-10 could open some eyes as well. He finished 18th in this race a year ago after starting 31st. This season, he will roll from the 14th-starting spot.
