Trevor Bayne, the 2011 Daytona 500 champion, will get back behind the wheel in the October 11 NASCAR Xfinity Series Focused Health 302 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The 34-year-old racer will pilot the No. 24 part-time Sam Hunt Racing Toyota GR Supra in the event and will serve as the teammate to rookie contender Dean Thompson.

Sam Hunt Racing announced Bayne’s upcoming start via a social media graphic on Friday.

Sam Hunt Racing is thrilled to add Bayne’s extensive racing experience alongside Thompson’s youthful exuberance for Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

“It’s always exciting to bring in an experienced driver that has competed at the Cup level,” Sam Hunt, team owner of Sam Hunt Racing, said. “Trevor not only understands where we are as a team, but wants to be a part of our team’s growth process. He’s a great guy and will be a great teammate for Dean to lean on. We are all excited to get on track together.”

Bayne, who joined LEGACY MOTOR CLUB as the driver optimization leader in January 2024, had not competed as a driver in the NASCAR National Series ranks since the 2023 season, but got his feet wet behind the wheel of the No. 1 TRICON Garage Toyota Tundra TRD Pro at Darlington Raceway last month.

The native of Knoxville, TN, secured a fifth-place finish in the Sober or Slammer 200, which was a very impressive return to competitive racing.

Bayne, who has amassed 361 NASCAR National Series starts in his career, including 164 in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, is a former two-time NASCAR Xfinity Series race winner. While driving for RFK Racing, Bayne took his first career NASCAR Xfinity Series win at Texas Motor Speedway in the Fall 2011. Two years later, Bayne would snag his second-career win at Iowa Speedway.

The driver last competed in the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2023, where he made three starts behind the wheel of the No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. In the three starts with JGR in 2023, Bayne recorded a best finish of seventh at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Incredibly, Bayne took his first career NASCAR Cup Series win before visiting victory lane in the NASCAR Xfinity Series as he scored a win in the sport’s biggest race, the Daytona 500, a day after turning 20 years old.
