Sheldon Creed Paces Soggy Practice Session from Portland, Noah Gragson to Backup Car

Sheldon Creed – who continues the search for his first top-five finish in the NASCAR Xfinity Series — paced the sole practice session for the second-tier series ahead of Saturday’s Pacific Office Automation 147, the inaugural event for the series at Portland.

With the 1.967-mile road course drenched in rain, teams were forced to contest Friday’s practice session on wet weather tires, which resulted in a continuous change in positions on the speed charts as conditions and confidence improved.

At the conclusion of the 50-minute session, it was Sheldon Creed’s No. 2 Whelen Engineering Chevrolet Camaro that posted a time of 88.678 seconds (79.975mph) to lead the practice by nearly a half-second over second-place Ty Gibbs.

Driving for Jordan Anderson Racing, Myatt Snider put his No. 31 Chevrolet third on the speed charts in the session, although 1.4 seconds behind Creed’s blindingly fast time. AJ Allmendinger and Brett Moffitt rounded out the top-five.

Putting down flying laps at the end of the session, Riley Herbst, Josh Berry, Brandon Brown, Connor Mosack, and Spencer Pumpelly competed the top-10 for the sole NASCAR Xfinity Series practice session.

Impressive times were also put down by many drivers, including Andy Lally (11th), Darren Dilley (15th), and Stefan Parsons (18th), and Matt Jaskol (21st), all of which put down impressive top-25 efforts for their smaller operations in practice.

Early in the 50-minute practice session, Noah Gragson had an on-track incident that saw the No. 9 go off-course and tear the nose off of his entry. The significant damage will send JR Motorsports to a backup car for Saturday’s event.
