On Tuesday, NASCAR issued its weekly penalty report, and there was only one infraction contained in the report — a one-race suspension for Dennis Powell, the car chief for the No. 42 Young’s Motorsports NASCAR Xfinity Series program.

According to the report, Powell was found to be in violation of Sections 10.5.2.5.G of the NASCAR Rule Book, which pertains to the loss or separation of an improperly installed rear axle from the vehicle.

The rear axle on the No. 42 Chevrolet Camaro dislodged under caution in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series SciAps 200 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, which sent driver Leland Honeyman into the wall, and out of the race after he had completed 95 of the 203 laps contested on Saturday afternoon.

Powell will be permitted to return to his car chief duties with the No. 42 Young’s Motorsports team at The Loop 110 (the Chicago Street Race) on July 6.

Honeyman sits third in the 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series Rookie of the Year Standings, 238 points behind ROTY point leader Jesse Love. Love and Shane van Gisbergen have each won races this season, which means Honeyman will have to win a race prior to the Playoffs points reset in order to have a chance at winning Rookie of the Year honors.

But even if he’s eliminated from contention once the Playoffs begin, it’s been a solid rookie campaign for Honeyman and the No. 42 Young’s Motorsports program.

Honeyman scored a season-best fourth-place finish at Talladega Superspeedway, and he has recorded six top-20 finishes this season.
