MBM Motorsports has added a new driver to its lineup for the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series season as 18-year-old Mason Maggio is set to make his series debut in the Alsco Uniforms 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 4th.
According to a press release from the team, Maggio will pilot the No. 66 Ford Mustang with sponsorship from Maggio’s long-time partner HMY Yachts. The young racer is excited to be getting behind the wheel for his Xfinity Series debut.
“I’m very excited to be rolling the dice at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for my NASCAR Xfinity Series debut,” said Maggio in the team release. “It’s a step up the NASCAR ladder that I look forward to making. A huge thank you to my family for their support, Carl Long and Jason Houghtaling for the opportunity, and all our great partners for making this possible.”
Maggio has already had a chance to get acclimated with the MBM Motorsports team as he turned laps in the team’s car at a recent test at Charlotte Motor Speedway back in January. Maggio feels he and his team gelled well in that test session.
“When we tested at Charlotte, we showed a lot of potential,” Maggio explained. “The seat time and building chemistry with the team really helped prepare me for the opportunity to go to Vegas. With the potential we showed, I think we’ll have a good run and get a respectful result for my first Xfinity Series race.”
Jason Houghtaling will serve as the crew chief for the effort, and the veteran crew chief is elated to be a part of Maggio’s Xfinity Series debut.
“I am very excited to be a part of Mason’s Xfinity debut,” Houghtaling said. “I have worked with him and watched him progress from the Pro Late Model ranks, and I have seen an amazing amount of talent and drive to take on our new challenge.”
Magio, a native of Palm Beach Garden, Florida, made four NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series starts during the 2022 season, all for the Reaume Brothers Racing team. Maggio’s best Truck Series finish to date was a 27th-place effort at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.
The youngster also won three races and finished runner-up in the 2022 Carolina Pro Late Model Series Championship standings.
