It’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks for DGM Racing’s NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Josh Williams, who was suspended for last weekend’s race at Circuit of the Americas. However, on Thursday, NASCAR announced that it has approved Williams’ post-suspension waiver request, which will keep the driver playoff eligible.
Williams sits 22nd in the NASCAR Xfinity Series point standings after six races, and if the underdog racer is able to sneak out a win before the Playoffs begin, the driver of the No. 92 Chevrolet Camaro will have a chance to race for a championship.
The Port Charlotte, Florida native was involved in an early crash at Atlanta Motor Speedway, and after his team made repairs to keep him in the race, a chunk of Behr bond tape flew off of the No. 92 car as the race was going back to green on lap 33. This forced NASCAR to call another caution, and as a result NASCAR race control instructed Williams to park his car for the remainder of the race.
Williams parked it… on the frontstretch at the start-finish line. Then, Williams climbed from his car, walked through the infield grass and flashed a peace sign to the fans in the stands.
NASCAR then called Williams, his crew chief Bryan Berry, and team owner Mario Gosselin to the NASCAR hauler, where they would be forced to remain until Wayne Auton could speak to them after the race about the situation.
Following the meeting with Auton, Williams was suspended for last weekend’s NASCAR Xfinity Series event at Circuit of the Americas.
In the wake of Williams parking his car at the start-finish line at Atlanta, and gaining national attention in the process, the DGM Racing team and Williams have reached a new sponsorship partnership with Parking Guidance Systems LLC. The company will sponsor Williams in the No. 92 car as well as his DGM Racing teammate Alex Labbé in several races this season.
PGS will be on Labbé’s No. 91 car this weekend at Richmond Raceway.
