It has been long rumored, and they have even started selling cars off in recent months, but GMS Racing made the news official on Thursday.

The team will be closing their NASCAR Xfinity Series organization and focus solely on the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series in 2020.

Here is a statement from GMS Racing:

“GMS Racing will not field a NASCAR Xfinity Series entry next season. We have decided that in the best interest of the organization we will put our complete focus on our Gander Trucks and ARCA Racing Series programs in 2020. We can’t thank John Hunter (Nemechek) and everyone that has been involved in our Xfinity effort over the past four years enough for their hard work and dedication to the organization. We wish John Hunter (Nemechek) the best in his future endeavors.” – Mike Beam, President of GMS Racing

John Hunter Nemechek scored six top-five finishes and 19 top-10s for the organization in 2019 en route to a seventh-place finish in the year-end point standings. Nemechek had a season-best finish of second at Las Vegas in the spring.

  1. The 23 X car used to be owned by a lottery winner. Can’t remember his name…..is he still operating a team? He was a nice guy, that just wanted to have a team……I hoped he would do good, but I don’t think he ever had a strong team…….darn, what was his name..?

    1. I believe you are thinking about Joe Dennette, who won the lottery and started a truck series team. He had truck No. 23 as he bought 23 lottery tickets to win the jackpot.
