Greg Biffle will attempt to make it into the 40-car field for the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season-opening race, the Daytona 500, in the No. 44 NY Racing Team entry.

NY Racing revealed the news with a rendering of their paint scheme in a tweet on Monday morning, captioned with “It’s Our Time !”

The No. 44 NY Racing entry makes the 42nd confirmed entry for the 2022 Daytona 500 (Click here for full 2022 Daytona 500 projected entry list).

According to a press release from NY Racing, Jay Guy will serve as the crew chief for the effort.

For Biffle, there is excitement in being able to wheel the Next Gen race car.

“I’m really excited to have the opportunity to drive the Next Gen car and help NY Racing make its entry into the 2022 season,” Biffle said in the release. “I’ve always said since the day I stepped away from full time competition that I would return under the right circumstances.”

According to Biffle, the NY Racing No. 44 machine will be a car built and prepared by Richard Childress Racing and it will have a Hendrick Motorsports engine under the hood.

Biffle, 52, last competed in the NASCAR Cup Series back in the 2016 season. Biffle has 19-career wins in the series, and he has a career-best finish of second in the overall championship standings, a feat he accomplished in 2005.

The Washington-native has run two NASCAR Camping World Truck Series events since his time as a full-time NASCAR Cup Series competitor came to an end. Biffle won his one start at Texas Motor Speedway with Kyle Busch Motorsports in 2019 and finished 19th with GMS Racing in 2020 at Darlington Raceway.

The No. 44 car will have sponsorship from Grambling State University and HBCU League Pass Plus in the Daytona 500.

“As a product of HBCU and an alumni of Grambling Football, I’m excited to have them on board with HBCU League Pass Plus,” Said team owner John Cohen. “I want to thank Chevrolet for this great partnership along with Richard Childress Racing and Hendrick Motorsports, without them I’m not sure this is possible.”

Puma and Illesteva have also partnered with NY Racing for the duration of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season, and are both associate sponsors for the Daytona 500 bid. The team says future partners and sponsors will be announced at a later date.

NY Racing has not competed in a NASCAR Cup Series event since the 2018 season with driver JJ Yeley. Prior to 2018, NY Racing was known as Xxxtreme Motorsports.

Cohen’s best finish as a NASCAR Cup Series team owner was a 32nd-place effort with Reed Sorenson in the 2015 NASCAR Cup Series Daytona 500. NY Racing had been hinting at their return on social media all offseason.
