Michael Annett has a pretty sweet throwback — literally and figuratively — for Darlington this season. He will run a special No. 1 Oreo Cookie paint scheme, which pays tribute to the scheme that Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the 2002 NASCAR Busch Series race at Daytona with.

JR Motorsports officially announced the scheme on Thursday.

Of course, Earnhardt’s original scheme was the No. 3, part of a collaboration with Dale Earnhardt Inc. and Richard Childress Racing, but it’s really cool they were able to get the actual sponsor on board with the throwback scheme. JR Motorsports has had a knack for making this happen.

If you recall, Annett ran a throwback Baby Ruth car in honor of Jeff Gordon last season.

Earnhardt Jr. was elected into the 2021 NASCAR Hall of Fame Class, a congratulatory message to Earnhardt is displayed on the C-post of the car.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series Darlington Throwback event will take place on September 5th.
